I have no experience or knowledge of the game of lacrosse. Can I play?
Yes, a large number of our players at each level will have no prior experience at the start of the season. If you are interested, you can play.
Can I play school sports and also play for the Oro Valley Lacrosse Club?
Yes, our practice and game schedules are developed to minimize conflicts with school sports. We encourage players to participate in sports programs that are offered at their school.
The sports team I am currently involved with has a season that will overlap with the start of lacrosse. Can I still participate? Yes. We understand that youth sport seasons can overlap. Our extended pre-season (mid October through December) is designed to provide as much practice time as possible for new players. You may miss some early practices to complete your season and/or tournament. When our games start in January, we ask that players minimize missed practice sessions and games.
Where will practices be held? We anticipate that all practices will be held at a Town of Oro Valley park or an Amphitheater School District campus.
What exactly is the lacrosse season? Lacrosse is traditionally at spring sport, but the youth program in Arizona extends from mid-October to early April. This is to provide for better access to coaches, fields, and officials. The fall pre-season (October through December) focuses on skill development. The regular season (January through early April) will have games most Saturdays and a few games on weekday evenings. The State Championship tournament will be in early April.
How much travel is involved? The COED 8U program will not travel outside of northwest Tucson. The Girls 11U/14U program, Boys 10U, 12U and 14U teams will play games in Tucson and games at various locations in metro Phoenix.
I may not be able to afford the dues. Is there any financial help available?
The Oro Valley Lacrosse Club attempts to give every student athlete who wants to play an opportunity to participate. Payment plans and/or participation in fund raisers will be made available as-needed.
