Dec 11 - LAX4 Life Tournament - Our game times are still yet to be announced. The games will be held at Will Nolan Park (which is a part of Vista Canyon Park, 16020 S 30th St, Phoenix, AZ 85048.) It is about 1 hour and 30 minute drive from Naranja Park.
We will let you know as soon as we can what time games will begin. We will want the team to arrive an hour prior to the first game in order to get settled and warm up.
More details to come later this week.
PLEASE - IF YOUR RSVP has changed for these games, please let us know. The Coaches need to have an accurate count of players ASAP so they can plan accordingly. Right now we see every player attending (with the exception of one.)
Jan 8 - Oro Valley Holiday Classic - Would you like to help organize this tournament? Let Sara or Erin know! It's a great way to get some volunteer hours in, too.
A NOTE FROM THE COACHES:
Hello Parents! It’s been a great start to the lacrosse practice season and we’re excited to be working with all of the new players, and returning players as well. We are looking forward to starting our games in January.
Saturday's long practice was helpful and insightful for all the players and coaches. We worked hard, learned some plays, and got a feel for the 12U size field and which players might play at which positions. We know your boys were tired at the end of the practice, too. This was a good introduction to what game Saturday's during the season may be like. Some will have early morning departures and will often have 2 games to play (occasionally back to back.)
Practices will be increasingly more important for players to attend for 3 reasons.
- Player attendance at practices helps us know who will show for games and so we can plan to make a roster of players and positions.
- Players attending practice learn important skills that may not be taught at every practice. If they miss learning a skill, they will fall behind (especially for newer players.) Players also learn plays on the field and learn to trust their teammates during practice which carries over to game play.
- Parents encouraging kids to attend practice helps hold the kids accountable to their commitment, and the kids see that practicing with the team and being part of the team is important for both learning the game and growing with the team.
The 12U games are more competitive than 10U (for those who moved up from 10U this year.) Many of the Phoenix teams are well practiced and can sometimes be physical. There is a lot of running involved (hence, the reason why we focus on conditioning during practices.) The 12U games also require a different level of skill and mastery of the basics (scooping, passing, catching.)
We had hoped to field one 10 player team, and one 7 player team but we've yet to have a practice where all of our players are in attendances so cannot yet determine or set up teams in this way. It's important for teammates to learn to play with each other. We'll see how the rest of practices play out and can hopefully work toward this goal (as this will increase play time for all players) but would need to see more consistent attendance for this to be feasible.
THANK YOU to all of the parents for being supportive of your player and the team! We hope the boys are learning and having fun, too!
