Free Mouthguard and Fitting for OVLAX

Hello Parents!  We have a great offer from Dental Pros right here in Tucson.  You can get your player a free mouthguard and mouthguard fitting!

Dental Pros will be hosting OV players for their custom fit mouthguard fittings on:
  • Friday December 17th 2021
  • Between 1:00-5:00 PM at their NW office, 6450 N. Oracle Rd. Tucson, AZ 85704. W
They are in the same plaza as Hobby Lobby right behind the Oreganos on Oracle and Orange Grove.

Players must have parents present to sign off waivers and fill out health and dental history forms

They can only see 9 players every 15 minutes. Please do not double book or add more players as they will not have the space or staff to be able to do more than the amount allowed.

Players must be signed up by no later than December 8th to ensure they have the proper amount of materials and staff to host our players.

Here is the link to the Google Sheet to sign up your player.

For any players that are currently in Orthodontic treatment they will not be able to do a custom mouthguard as constant adjustments and shift in teeth will not allow player mouthguards to fit while in treatment. For players that are in orthodontic treatment they will be handing out pre fabricated Orthodontic Sports mouthguards to have for the season.

Dental Pros will also be offering to OV players and family members promotions and discounts if anyone is interested in Dental, Oral Surgery, or Orthodontic treatment for the remainder of the OV season.

If you end up taking your son please thank Dental Pros for doing this for OVLAX.

Thanks!

12U - Note from Coaches, and updates for the week
by posted 11/28/2021

Hello everyone!

A few reminders and information for the upcoming week, and a message from the Coaches.

Adrenaline Store:  Closes tomorrow, Nov 29!  Order today.  Items will be delivered mid-January.  Store Link:  Oro Valley Lacrosse Team Store | Adrenaline Lacrosse | powered by OrderMyGear (itemorder.com)

Practices this week are the usual:

Mon and Wed - 6 - 7:30 pm

Fri - 5:30 - 7

Sat - 8:30 - 10   (NOTE: this may change and become another scrimmage day depending on how well practices go on Monday and Wednesday.  We'll let you know ASAP.)

Car Wash Tickets - we still have some for sale!  Let Sara or Erin know if you're interested.  And THANK YOU to all the families who have purchased.  A portion of the proceeds goes directly back to Oro Valley Lacrosse to help pay for gear, field equipment, and other needed items for the teams.

Dec 11 - LAX4 Life Tournament -  Our game times are still yet to be announced.  The games will be held at Will Nolan Park (which is a part of Vista Canyon Park, 16020 S 30th St, Phoenix, AZ 85048.)  It is about 1 hour and 30 minute drive from Naranja Park.

We will let you know as soon as we can what time games will begin.  We will want the team to arrive an hour prior to the first game in order to get settled and warm up.

More details to come later this week.

PLEASE - IF YOUR RSVP has changed for these games, please let us know.  The Coaches need to have an accurate count of players ASAP so they can plan accordingly.  Right now we see every player attending (with the exception of one.)

Jan 8 - Oro Valley Holiday Classic - Would you like to help organize this tournament?  Let Sara or Erin know!  It's a great way to get some volunteer hours in, too.

A NOTE FROM THE COACHES:

Hello Parents!  It’s been a great start to the lacrosse practice season and we’re excited to be working with all of the new players, and returning players as well.   We are looking forward to starting our games in January.

Saturday's long practice was helpful and insightful for all the players and coaches.  We worked hard, learned some plays, and got a feel for the 12U size field and which players might play at which positions.  We know your boys were tired at the end of the practice, too.  This was a good introduction to what game Saturday's during the season may be like.  Some will have early morning departures and will often have 2 games to play (occasionally back to back.)

Practices will be increasingly more important for players to attend for 3 reasons.

  • Player attendance at practices helps us know who will show for games and so we can plan to make a roster of players and positions.
  • Players attending practice learn important skills that may not be taught at every practice.  If they miss learning a skill, they will fall behind (especially for newer players.)  Players also learn plays on the field and learn to trust their teammates during practice which carries over to game play.
  • Parents encouraging kids to attend practice helps hold the kids accountable to their commitment, and the kids see that practicing with the team and being part of the team is important for both learning the game and growing with the team.

The 12U games are more competitive than 10U (for those who moved up from 10U this year.)  Many of the Phoenix teams are well practiced and can sometimes be physical.  There is a lot of running involved (hence, the reason why we focus on conditioning during practices.)  The 12U games also require a different level of skill and mastery of the basics (scooping, passing, catching.)

We had hoped to field one 10 player team, and one 7 player team but we've yet to have a practice where all of our players are in attendances so cannot yet determine or set up teams in this way.  It's important for teammates to learn to play with each other.  We'll see how the rest of practices play out and can hopefully work toward this goal (as this will increase play time for all players) but would need to see more consistent attendance for this to be feasible.

THANK YOU to all of the parents for being supportive of your player and the team!  We hope the boys are learning and having fun, too!

Quick ask

We found that for an unknown reason, the app is not holding on to our RSVP for this Saturday.  As a temporary bandaid, please send a quick email back to me so I can keep tabs of attendance and share with our coaches.

Thx
