Important Updates for Saturday-MUST READ
by posted 01/19/2021

First point....here are the details of this weekend's LOCATION.  It is at the Glendale Youth Sports Complex (make sure you add youth on an iphone or you will travel to California).  There are 5 fields at this park and as of today, this complex and facility map is being updated in our app.  I will upate the game location in the app once that is complete.  This park is right next to where the AZ Cardinals play and the boys are scheduled to play on "Stadium Field A".  Remember, arrival time is a 9AM and for many of us, this is our first time at this location so please plan to arrive early.  Either Danial (Aaron's Dad) or I will be at the gate around that time to help the boys get to the right field.  If any changes come through during the week, we will reach out.

Second point......Today we received word that this weekend's hosting facility is restricting spectators. The goal is to maintain the season's integrity so we thank you in advance for your cooperation.
  • The town of Glendale has limited the spectator attendance to ONE person per player.  All spectators must remain outside the facility borders (outside the fences detailed on the field map). The surrounding parking lot and sidewalk are the closest you may be to the fields.
  • We are not permitted to bring team water to share or refill the boy's bottles.  Be sure you are sending plenty of water with them.  Snacks will be provided between games.
  • For 8U only players may have one parent on the sideline of the field.  Spectators must wear masks while inside the facility.
  • We do not yet know if these specific rules will continue for our future 20/21 season games.
All players, parents and coaches must have masks on while inside the facility.  Players may remove masks during competition; coaches must wear masks at all limes.  Parents accompanying their 8U player must have masks on at all times while on the property.

From our league leaders:  The AYL thanks all players, coaches, and spectators for adhering to these requests. We are fortunate to be able to play games at all, and cannot risk violating the requests of our hosts. There are few to no alternatives for playing space left.

Blue and Gold Play
by posted 01/19/2021

Parents,

The only way to view the plays is through the OV Lax website 10U team page.   In case you were wondering why they didn't come through over e-mail.  I swear this is the last message tonight.

Standing Face-offs
by posted 01/19/2021

Parents,

Here is a quick video about standing faceoffs by a player who is considered one of the greatest faceoff specialists to play the game.  While some of the concepts are advanced, I want the players to look at his body position setting up for the faceoff.  Whether or not we get a "Plug" or a "Rake" is not important right now, but addressing the ball and being in an athletic position is.

Thanks,

Coach Frank

Gold Offense

"Gold" Offense

Parents,

Here is our Gold offense for review.  It's basically a "Y" Offense.  M1 has the ball and tries to dodge for an open shot on goal.  A1 and A2 swap sides of the crease with A2 providing a natural pick for any defender on A1.  If M1 is defended, hopefully there is a quick goal for A1 at the top of the crease.  If that pass isn't open, a quick pass to M2 should be avail as he begins to cut toward the goal.

Blue Offense

"Blue" Offense

Parents,

Here is our our "Blue" play for our kids to review.  M1, M2, and A2 continue cutting to the goal for a quick pass from A1.  If no plass the return to the top and move to the opposite wing.  Players will maneuver in a figure 8 from top to wing to cut to top and then the same on the other side.  This is essentially a 1-2-1 offense.  We've gone through it several times with them all but this will allow you to review it at home.

Games-this Saturday 1/23 Need RSVP
by posted 01/18/2021

I'm so excited to share that we have 2 games scheduled for the boys this coming Saturday, January 23rd.  They will be back to back games, at 10a and 11a in Glendale with a 9AM arrival time.  Stay tuned for more details regarding park location and field info.  We will share as the information firms up via email and on the app.

Important reminders:
-Full uniform, helmet, pads and a mouthguard are required.  Cup highly recommended.
-Bring plenty of water....especially important with back to back games
-Becky is providing snacks and gatorade for a quick refuel between games.  Snacks will be nut free and individually packaged in
out attempts to reduce the sharing of germs.  If you prefer to bring a personal snack for your son, feel free to do so.
-Remember to allow the coaches to do the coaching while we enthusiastically cheer on our kids on.  Roster cards are coming so we can
cheer for all the boys but yelling things like "shoot the ball" or "get back" cause confusion for the kids and should be left for the
coaching staff.   Otherwise, we can cheer and yell like hell :-)

We are needing an accurate count for player attendance and have less than 5 days to get this info.  The app is great for this BUT looks like it's being glitchy today so please let us know yay or nah by shooting me a quick email.  erinpaulow@yahoo.com

Of course this is all subject to change but fingers crossed, it holds.  Be on the look out for our next email with more detailed location info.    LET'S HAVE FUN!

Mouth Guard-A Must Have
by posted 01/10/2021

Happy Sunday Team,

It's the time of year where we need to be sure every player is wearing ALL pieces of protective gear.  Coaches are seeing kids playing without mouthguards which poses a safety issue.  If your son does not have a mouthguard, now is the time to get it.  Coaches are giving a 1 week grace period before kids will be asked to sit out if missing protective gear.  Practice will soon include more contact so this is for your player's protection.  (Be sure to get the type that attaches to each player's helmet for easy access.)  Also, don't forget the cup!

For the near future, Saturday practices are set for 8:30am-10am play time.  If a variance occures, we will be sure to notify you.  Games are still TBD but we will keep you in the loop when things become more solid.  In the meantime, we will maintain our Tues, Thurs and Sat practice schedule.

See you soon!

Conditioning
by posted 12/19/2020

Parents,

For those of you who were at practice today I hope you are excited by what you saw as the coaching staff was.  This kids are going to be GOOD!  That being said, for the coaches corner this week, i can't emphasize conditioning enough.  If you have some free time over this holiday season, here are some drills to do with your athlete.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NO89RDY-ZI

Stay tuned.  While Coach Cody and I are out of town for the holidays, Coach Ben and Coach Jason may be able to hold some voluntary practices in-between Christmas and New Years.  Stand-by for further words from our managers.  They will let you know if and when those practices will happen.

I want you all to know how thankful I am for the athletes and you as their parents.  I told them all at the breakout today that they are MY gift this holiday season.  I know I speak for the entire coaching staff when I say we are blessed to have you all on this adventure with us.  I'll see everyone soon.
